(This newbe very grateful for the help so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Overview of book situation.
Not knowing what I was doing, and working first with not-too-good Microsoft publisher, I made perhaps some bad assumptions. A good portion of the book is drawings. I decided to place all drawings on full page, most full pages have many drawings. My outline for the drawings in Corel Draw is 8 inches by 5 inches. More than 100 are completed. All black and white line art. I thought this would be good for a standard 6 inches wide by 9 inches tall paperback.
However some problems to start. 1- Seems that it could go over 600 pages. Just found a 700 + pager of 6 by 9 so should be doable. 2- The 8 inches by 5 inches drawings are bigger than I see in some 6 wide by 9 tall books some books but should do, right????? On those pages would have page number but not chapter heading. top and bottom average, squeeze to bottom as would like page numbers on top. 3- Bringhurst says I should average about 66 spaces with the type across. I have a 6 by 9 paperback here and the width of type is 4 inches.
I see that I am overestimating the size of type. I thought 12 but seems would be 11 or even possibly 10 point. Some 6 wide by 9 high paperbacks have 4 wide type space. I desire to save space as it is lengthy, but want it readable.
I want to ask questions in proper order. As- how do I prioritize questions/problem?
I do not know if friend can get the Corel Draw files in ID. If worse comes to worst I can print and scan the drawings into either ID or Illistrator (I guess/think). But what about size? Is it possible to not have chapter heads on these pages and still fit to 6 by 9?
I will for sure use common use serif type for readability. I wish to follow the average 66 space per line rule. I need next to decide what the type space would be, as 4 wide high or 6 high. Worry already too many pages. I need keep this one book, not two volumes. But type-space size next decision, right????????? Assume standard page text block and fit into text frame of page, sizes for both, an early decision.
Other silly question. I learned to type years ago. I therefore have the old typewriter habit of hitting space key twice at end of sentences. Does justification automatically correct for this? I am newbe. Michael Donovan
