A couple of months ago I was inquiring about ways to get equations into ID with minimum fuss. Then the project was put on hold, so I didn't pursue the topic further. Now the project is being revived.
I've got about 50 Word files, some with and some without equations.
I tried just placing a raw Word file in ID to see how it would handle them. (I'm using CS3 on PC, but also have CS4 and might use that instead.)
Some (or maybe all) of the equations ended up as Windows Metafiles or Windows Enhanced Metafiles in ID. These appear to be embedded. I unembedded one, creating an EPS file that I opened in AI. I still don't have the hang of AI -- how can I tell if the characters are RGB or CMYK? The project is printing in straight 100% black ink, and right now the color in AI appears to be a build.
FWIW, when I click on some of the equations in Word, the Format Picture menu pops up. When I click on others, the MathType menu pops up.
In any case, most of the equations are garbled when I place the Word files into ID -- overlapping characters, etc.
Am I remembering correctly that if I buy the full version of MathType, it will save all of the Word equations as EPS files to which I can relink in ID? Would I be able to make all of these files 100% black without having to open them in AI?
Sorry for asking some of the same questions again, but I want to find the easiest way to end up with properly formatted equations (no overlapping characters or misaligned bracket segments, etc.) in the correct color space. I have no problem buying the full version of MathType, if that's the best way to get the equations from Word to ID. Particularly without having to open each one in AI, which I want to avoid at all costs.
TIA,
Marlene
