I imported a new chapter into a book and placed it in an empty space. The book already has many pages with linked text frames already in place. I planned to simply link the outport of the imported text to the first threaded frame. The text would then flow into the existing frames, I'd delete the first frame (from where I placed the imported text), and I'd have the new text already in place in threaded frames.
BUT something happened along the way.
I cannot link the text frame of the imported text to the existing frames. Now, I've done this many times before on this book and others, too. But for some reason, I can't do it here. Suspecting that there was something amiss about the frames themselves, I snooped around and discovered that the imported text frame are not defined. That is, under Object > Contents, all three options (text, graphic, undefined) are grayed out. I'm guessing that ID doesn't allow a discontented frame, like the imported text, to be linked to a contented frame. Hmmmm. How can the contents of a frame NOT be either text (which this one is), graphic, or undefined? How can it NOT be either defined or undefined?
I round-tripped the file to IDML, but to no avail. There is no Object Style applied to the frame, either.
Looking around, I noticed that there are lot of other frames that have no defined content, either. They were created by copying text out of another ID document and placing it in this one.
I can proceed with this one by merely reflowing the text in the old method. ID will simply run the new text in new frames on top of the old, empty, linked frames. (I'd delete all the old frames, but, oops, ID doesn't have a command for that, and I haven't found a script for that!)
Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks
