I'm working on a series of four pieces in ID CS4 (PC).
Font is ITC Cheltenham Book (OT). Same size, style, color, etc., in all four pieces.
First two pieces were fine, but I just exported the third piece to PDF (all PDFs created using the same job option -- PDF/X-4:2008), but in the third piece, the en dashes, close double quotes, and the fi ligature show up in the PDF as boxes with X in them. (The opening double quotes are fine, FWIW.)
These same characters are fine in the PDFs of the first two pieces. I checked and the exact same paragraph style sheet is used for the text in all of the documents. There are no character styles applied.
And before anyone asks, "Use typographer's quotes" is checked in preferences. Anyway, that wouldn't explain why only the closing quotes are bad.
I did try another PDF/X job option, but got the same results.
What is going on??? This job has to be completed tonight.
Anyone know what causes those infernal boxes with X in them to appear?
TIA,
Marlene
