I have a bunch of BBC documentaries in mkv and avi format all HDTV x264. (Check out MVGroup.org for educational torrents). They play in MPlayer (my player of choice), VLC and Quicktime (with Perian), look fab and sound great, but not smoothly. Sometimes it will play for 20 minutes then choke, or the video plays fine but the sound is choppy, or vice versa, or everything is just stuttering every 10-30 seconds or so. Power Mac G5 (1.8 Ghz, 1 Meg DRAMM [DDR SDRAM PC3200U-30330 (four slot)]) Play fine on my work computer (iMac - 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Gig SDRAM)
I checked google and frankly I'm even more confused!
What is limiting the playback? The processor speed (which can't be change?) or the DRAMM? (I still have two slots free, and max out and replace all four?)
Thanks Jim
