I am bummed. After several years of loyal service, my Canoscan LiDE 30 has given up the ghost. Well, half the ghost, that is. It scans only the left side of the page. After much troubleshooting the inescapable conclusion is that the hardware has failed. Canon doesn't offer repair service, apparently, so I'm going to have to buy a new scanner.
I have loved this scanner. At only a couple of Kg it is easy to take with me to a client's location. It's USB and it "just works" on any computer I have plugged it into, including Linux and even a Sun box once. (I have customers who use all kinds of OSs.)
Nowadays there are few single-purpose scanners being made. Any more everyone has gone to the all-in-ones. Canon does make some light-weight successors to the LiDE 30, but the cross-platform support is not as good.
Does anyone know of a very light-weight scanner?
