I like the drive imaging software I used on my old XP PC -- DriveImage -- but it won't run on my new Windows 7 PC so I need to get something else.
Ideally, I'd like software that works in the same way as DriveImage: will work while Windows is running (even while I'm working on the PC) and will create an entire image of each drive/partition in one big compressed file. I need to be able to search through the image file for particular files or folders and restore them separately, as well as the ability to restore an entire image file if my internal drives go south.
FWIW, the drives in the new PC seem to be Western Digital Caviars, and I'll be imaging to three external drives (alternately) that are all 1TB Seagate FreeAgents (USB).
Software doesn't have to be free or even very cheap -- I want something that will work well and not be too difficult to figure out. I've tried the Windows 7 built-in backup but haven't been able to figure out how it works. It's apparently creating incremental backups, and that's not what I want. I think there's a way to create an image, but I can't figure out if the image would be searchable.
Thanks for any suggestions.
