Have you tried deleting Illustrator's preference files (after saving any custom keyboard commands or views)?
That has solved the mystery for me in InDesign, might be the same for Illustrator.
Also, run applejack to clean all your caches. (or at least restart with shift key down to clear a lot of them).

Sorry for the OT, but here there seem to be people so knowledgeable... :-)

I'm using a Macintosh G4 with MacOSX 10.4.11, and I have a problem with
keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator.
I have Adobe CS2, and in every application of the Suite the keyboard
shortcuts are working just fine.
In Illustrator, though, almost no shortcuts are working: just the
single-letter (A, V...) work, but no Apple+S, Apple+W, F4...
Setting user shortcuts via the internal feature, delivers the same results.
Strange, and inexplicable... :-(

I'm not using an original Apple Keyboard, but a Microsoft Digital Media Pro
one. I don't know if it may cause the problem.
