You may also select the text box and fill it with the Swatch Color du Jour. Select the entire box, go to Swatches and ensure the "box" icon is selected ("formatting affects container"), then choose the fill color

Observe how that affects your text and consider whether you want or need to change the color of the text. To do so, select the text and then go to Swatches; ensure the T icon is selected ("formatting affects text"), and choose a color (or white, for Reverse) that suits your need.

To manipulate the position(s) of the text within the box, use CMD-Shift-T (or Type/Tabs) to bring up the Tabs bar. You can adjust horizontal text position inside the text box by moving the margin sliders. CMD-B (or Object/Text Frame Options) will give you opportunities to adjust vertically.
