I'm working on a book that contains a lot of text boxes. They contain all sorts of stuff -- plain old text, multi-column text tables, tabbed lists (bulleted or numbered), equations, etc. The boxes have a tinted background.
And many of them are quite long and roll over to multiple pages.
I was trying to find any easier way to handle the multipage text boxes than creating separate linked boxes. I was thinking that a one-column table might work, so I set about trying to create one. Then when a table hits the bottom of the page, I can just let it roll over to the next page and the box size, inset, tint, etc. will already be set up automatically.
When I select all of the elements that would go into the one-column table, I end up with two columns. I'm assuming this is because of the tabbed lists -- those tabs are telling ID to jump to the next column.
I ended up having to do multiple column and row merges -- works, but takes a lot of time. And I had to create an empty row for my multicolumn text table and paste that in separately (otherwise ID went crazy).
Is there any easier way to do what I'm trying to do? I've got text boxes that are 5 pages long ...
Oh, wait. I just realized I could replace the tabs with en spaces (or whatever) and then ID won't create a second column. Duh!
Okay, still got a question. Is it possible to set up a table style so I've got my 1 pica inset, no strokes, and a 15% black background? I'll still have to merge all of my rows, so I'm looking for every shortcut I can find.
Or is there a more efficient way to handle the multi-page text boxes other than creating one-column tables?
TIA,
Marlene
