Tool for doing the unpalatable to web images...
Some of us find no alternative in resource-strapped situations to taking low-res Internet images and upscaling them to use in print ads. It happens when there is "nothing else available." It also happens reluctantly when the final client is "busy" and thinks you should be able to make do. If an image looks fine on their monitor, it should look fine in their print ad. End of discussion.
I think I mentioned here that I use PhotoZoom Pro 3 to upscale. No miracle tool, but it usually avoids the mush of just upsizing in Photoshop. Different settings offer some control.
Well, there is another tool I'm using. Still in beta, I believe, and currently free. It's SmillaEnlarger. I got it through MacUpdate. (Don't know about these tools on the PC side.)
Smila Enlarger is more feature-rich and flexible than I first thought. Produces a different look than PZP3, but I don't have words to describe the difference. Easy to use. Expect it to be a regular part of my toolbox.
