I think this is a working behavior Adobe hasn't designed a solution for:
Create a character style that includes a change of text color. Apply it. Now edit the CS and remove the color so the word or letter that has the CS applied to it returns to the body text color. Can't do it, can you?
In order to change the CS text color, you have to specify a new color. None doesn't solve the problem, because the text with the CS applied then becomes invisible.
What I want to do: I have a CS for footnote references in the text. The CS includes Position > superscript and the color red (so I can find them easily as I work in the layout). When I am finished and ready to prepare the printing files, all I want to do is to change the FNs back to black-—OR TO WHATEVER COLOR THE TEXT IS. I cannot do it by simply editing the CS style for the footnote reference and setting the Color > Text Color, so it reverts to the underlying color of the text. I have to pick a color from the list. Usually--99% of the time--the text will be black, but there are time when I use another color. Or there will be the rare occasion when I change the color of the text after I remove the red from the footnote. When I do that, the FNs will remain black even though I have changed the color of the words themselves.
Is there a way to remove a CS character color so it reverts to the text of the paragraph style already applied to the text?
